Well now...First of all there was this egg and....oh...too far back I guess. Ok...I'll skip ahead...
Lets see. I was born in a Military hospital in Kingston Ontario. My mom has always said she knew I was going to be hard headed because for hours I was banging my head up against the exit before she was anywhere close to ready. Then they pumped her full of drugs and blamo, I was born. Wheee...my first high!
When I was 5 years old my whole family moved to Lahr, Germany. Of course, at the time I had no idea that the reason we moved was because my dad was in the Military. For all the bitching and complaining I did and still do, it was the closest thing to a home I had and loved every minute of it. The opportunities I had to travel and explore another culture and learning different languages was, as L would say kick ass. I spent a little over 8 years in Germany, got to do some awesome traveling (Italy, Austria, France, England, Switzerland and Holland).
So here I was back in Canada, again, and the only thing I could remember was the smell of my Nanny's shortbread and the stink of the pulp & paper mill wafting through the air. As with any super geeky fourteen year old kid, high school was a time of hiding out in the library or music room for me. Joined the wrestling team in my OAC year and started getting into Martial Arts, writing bellybuttonfuzz poetry and dreaming of the day I'd be free of the pimples on my nose and the strictly enforced Midnight curfew.
After highschool I spent some time floundering around University and College trying to figure out where I wanted to be. When I got a job with Air Internet, a local (and now defunct) ISP. Ahhh those were the days...all day on the phone answering questions about cup holders and telling people to stop stepping on their mouse, etc etc. I got my first grey hairs working that job. But it also gave me time to work on web design projects that I was itching to do. Though now people tell me there's a shampoo for that...but that's another story entirely :P
Two and a half years later I left Thunder Bay and Air Internet to work on a retreat project with some people out around Sault Ste Marie. I was the webdeveloper and administrator for the Serenity Wilderness Retreat, up until a personality/ego conflict forced me to step back from the project and re-evaluate my relationship with the people within the community. Its really too bad that these relationship has come to this semi dormant stage...but sometimes even an awesome dream needs a time out while the world of egos sort themselves out....
So, by this point, I'm stuck in the Soo with few friends and even fewer options. I pick up an awesome job at Pictographics and worked there for a little under a year before I had to be laid off.
By this time I'm wondering what the hell am I doing and start looking for another web development job. Only, by this time, employers are being much more picky about who they hire and 7 years techy experience isn't enough to get a job. So back to school I go...
...Well, I graduate top of my class in computer programming and a few months later start teaching the very course I had finished taking. I taught there for two years, dealing with visionaries and morons, dilitantes and posers.
Today
I now have started my own business called BlueWire Software, a multimedia and software development company.
